A magnifying mirror makes close personal care easy. Applying makeup, plucking brows, shaving, inserting contact lenses, checking skin. The right magnification lets you see fine detail clearly without leaning in or squinting, and a good light makes all the difference.
Choosing the right magnification
Magnifying mirrors are sold by power, usually 5x, 7x, 10x, or 15x. Higher power shows more detail but covers a smaller area, so you see less of your face at once. For general makeup and grooming, 5x to 7x is comfortable. For fine detail like brows or contact lenses, 10x or higher works better.
Lighted magnifying mirrors
A built-in LED ring removes shadow and shows true colour, which matters for makeup and skin checks. Many lighted mirrors offer adjustable brightness and colour temperature, so you can match daylight, warm indoor, or evening light. Rechargeable models avoid battery hassle.
Freestanding, wall-mounted, and travel
- Freestanding. Sit on a vanity or bench, often double-sided with a normal and magnified face.
- Wall-mounted. Swing-arm mirrors fixed by the basin, good for shaving and daily grooming.
- Travel. Compact folding mirrors with their own light for the road.
Double-sided mirrors
Many magnifying mirrors have a normal mirror on one side and a magnified mirror on the other. This lets you switch between an overall view and a close-up without owning two mirrors. A practical choice for everyday vanity use.
Choosing your mirror
Decide where it will live and how much magnification you need. A vanity makeup mirror suits 5x to 7x with good light. Detailed grooming suits 10x or higher. If you travel often, add a compact lighted folding mirror to the kit.
